Claudius Peters Technology Selected by World’s Largest Alumina Refinery

As a result of two expansions in the last few years, Alunorte (Alumina do Norte do Brasil S.A.), became the world’s largest alumina refinery, with a production of 6,3 millions of tons per year.

Being a partner at these great expansion projects, CLAUDIUS PETERS (CP) supplied the Alumina Storage Silos, using the exclusive technology “ASS” – Anti-Segregation System. Each silo has a storage capacity of 50.000 tons of Alumina, and a discharge capacity up to 2.400 t/h.

What the experts call "anti-segregation", i.e. maintaining the distribution of grains in mixtures unchanged is reached in Claudius Peters silos by a specific arrangement of aerated aeroslides and simultaneous air locking of the inner silo area. At the silo walls the alumina flows into radially arranged filling tubes. These tubes are equipped with special flaps of spring steel sheet over the complete length.

The combination of material pressure and under pressure in the tubes automatically opens and closes the flaps, in this way ensuring that the silo is filled with a homogeneous grain size distribution. A simple, however, most efficient construction which continuously guarantees the optimum material mixture for further processing without any special drives and maintenance.

As proven facts of the Claudius Peters ASS Silos technology, we can state:

  • Reduced anode effects
  • Decreased CO2 emission
  • Increased efficiency of gas cleaning systems
  • Reduced dust formation
  • Clearly improved working conditions
